Image: standing trees.org<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Today, we learned of one such urgent call that we share with you that impacts the national Green Mountain Forest in Vermont\u2026the great forest around the sacred land of Sunray\u2019s Peace Village. The US National Forest System has announced its intention to begin a massive timber sale to logging companies of over 13,000 acres&nbsp; of which 10, 855 acres are mature and old forest up to 160 years old. Preserving trees, especially mature and old growth forests, is vital to our efforts to respond to the growing crisis of global climate change, which we humans continue to exacerbate because of our self-centeredness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nonprofit organization, Standing Trees, has put out a call to everyone who understands the importance of preserving mature and old forests for the well-being of Mother Earth, all of life, and the future we want for generations to come. You can learn about the Telephone Gap logging project by reading Standing Trees call to action and you can respond immediately (whether you live in Vermont or not, as this is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilderness.org\/articles\/article\/how-united-states-started-saving-national-forests#:~:text=The%20Forest%20Reserve%20Act%20of%201891%20was%20signed%20into%20law,the%20Department%20of%20the%20Interior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>national public forest<\/em><\/a>) by taking the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Send a personal comment to the US Forest Service, which announced its <\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/project\/?project=60192\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Proposed Action<\/strong><\/a><strong> for the <\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/project\/?project=60192\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Telephone Gap Integrated Resource Project<\/strong><\/a><strong> in the Green Mountain National Forest, initiating a <\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/cara.fs2c.usda.gov\/Public\/CommentInput?Project=60192\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>45-day public comment period<\/strong><\/a><strong> that will extend through Monday, March 13th. This comment period is the first formal opportunity for the public to weigh in on the project after a year of delays.
