Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2022

Dear community of explorers,

How wonderful the awakening of the planetary family to the understanding that the secrets of life and the healing of our body, speech and mind has been carried courageously by Indigenous peoples around the world, as celebrated on October 10th.

“Indigenous” means being born to a place and part of a place and on a spiritual level- unified with that space and conveying the voice and wisdom of those who have gone on. Like the tall trees in the forest, communicating through a mycelium network, Indigenous communities recognize the voices conveyed through the environment and also choose to preserve the life force of the environment and their communities through consideration of the impact of their activities unto 21 generations.

Then, there’s the important recognition of political implications on the lives of Indigenous communities.

And why? It is important to correct “dominion over” into the remembrance of co-operation.

The majority of today’s pharmaceuticals are derived from the medicines of Indigenous peoples from around the world.

How did they know such plants would be of such medicine? Through testing and observation. When we think of the foods that are eaten, those foods which are grown in their natural state, they are derived from the caring hands of those who have gone on before.

In this time, people think of Indigenous people in many ways – sometimes glorified, sometimes denigrated. The truth is, the wake up call for preserving life is generated by Indigenous peoples around the world, which remind us of our interrelationship with the land and each other.

Recognizing the skills of life that have been passed on by Indigenous people is a reminder that now and tomorrow is built upon yesterday’s exploration. Let us be attentive to the illuminating messages of the past that we may scientifically evaluate as health, wisdom and skill for the present and the future.

Let us all place our attention at the heart’s natural awareness of things as they are, and while seeing the many appearances of difference, observe the underlying ground through which these appearances arise. The key essence of Indigenous people is a cultural recognition of the living relationship of human beings with the land, the sky, the sea and each other.

May the wisdom potential within every being flourish and grow. May appearances of dissonance be resolved into a song of cooperation and beneficial activity for all.

Sincerely,

Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo
