Cold Moon Celebration for 2022 January New Moon

New Moon Fire Celebration of the Cold Moon
Sunday January 2nd, 9:00 A.M. ET

Dear Global Community Friends,

You are invited to Sunray Meditation Society and the Peace Village’s New Moon Fire on Jan 2nd, 2022. Lighting of the Fires will be at 9:00 AM following the Stick Dance. Please join us by offering your prayers, practices and heart resonance on Zoom (link below). All are Welcome!

The New Moon in January is known to the Cherokee as the Cold Moon-Unolvtani (U-no-lv-ta-ni) or Nv-da ka-na-wo-ga. This quiet time of the season is for personal and ritual observance, fasting and personal purification. Families prepare for the coming of the new seasons, starting in March. Personal items and tools for planting are repaired, and new ones made. Telling the stories about ancestors and the family are shared with the younger ones by the elders.

We offer our practices during this New Moon as taught to us by Venerable Dhyani to mark the passing or ending of one cycle of seasons and the beginning of anew.

Cherokee New Year traditionally begins with the Pleiades star cluster setting on the horizon. Then the New Year begins on the first New Moon after. The actual date of that New Moon in 2022 is Feb. 1 and we will celebrate the Cherokee NY with the Fire on January 30.

In Learning Cherokee Ways – The Ywahoo Path, Venerable Dhyani writes:

“Ceremony honors changes in time and space, markers that define the vastness into manageable and articulable spaces of exploration.
Ceremony honors the cycles of the moon, the sun, and even more subtle cycles that connect our solar system with other galaxies
and the very heart of this universe and all universes.”

May we celebrate this New Moon together at the Peace Village and globally online to offer the precious practices taught to us by Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo with the Dance, Basic Meditation, Star Weaving and Medicine Wheel Mandala along with prayers and corn meal.

Come to the Fires, connecting your shrine Fires to the Circle!

Guided by Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo, we celebrate the traditions of the Green Mountain Ani Yun Wiwa as the gateway through which Ywahoo Lineage teachings are shared.

All are welcome to join at the Peace Village, following CDC guidelines or lighting the Fire on home shrines and joining in the practices.

Note To Our Zoom Friends:

Our camera will bring you into the Sacred Arbor on the New Moon Fires with a single stationary camera view of the Central Fire.

There will be no zoom moderator.

This change supports the sacred ground, Medicine and prayers within the Arbor, encouraging a practice of quiet focus for all.

The Basic Practices will be offered by the officiating Minister in the Arbor.  Please join in by viewing the Fire and participating in your practices throughout transmission interruptions.
