Sunday January 10 Cold Moon Celebration for January New Moon Fire
Lighting of the Fire at 9:00 AM ET
January 10, 2021
Odali Utugi/ Hope Mountain at Sunray Peace Village in Lincoln, VT
ALL ARE WELCOME VIA ZOOM
Nv-da ka-na-wo-ga – COLD MOON is celebrated on the New Moon in January as a reminder that we receive all blessings with our inner listening and connecting to the vortex of energy.
Although a modern calendar year is comprised of 12 months, there are actually 13 cycles or phases of the moon each year. The number 13 is significant. Not only does this number correspond to the lunar cycles of the year, but all species of turtles living in the ancient homeland (in fact, all species turtles in the world) always had 13 scales on the back of their shells. As a result, Cherokee culture associated the spaces on the back of the turtle with the 13 yearly phases of the moon. These phases have shifted over time and do not fall within the 12 month year calendar year precisely every year.
Please join in from your home shrines as you light your Fires (candles), connecting with the Home Fires and offering prayers of gratitude.
Our prayers, dances and meditations join together to carry the intention of peace and love.
As VT Covid protocols guide us, 1 Firekeeper in Central Arbor, 1 Firekeeper Grandmother in Moon Arbor and 1 Officiating Minister are present in person at the Fire. All others are invited to join via Zoom.
The Ceremonial Calendar 2021 for Odali Utugi, Sunray Peace Village in Lincoln, VT is available online.
Due to different growing cycles, other Sunray communities may have Fires on a different date. Please check with your local community.
At Sunray Meditation Society, sacred ceremonies such as ceremonial new moon fires, meditation practices, and healing celebrations are neither bought nor sold, in contrast to workshops and other teachings where registrations are offered.
