Cherokee Lunar New Year and Celebration of Friends Making New
New Moon Fire

Dear Friends of Sunray near and far,
You are invited to Sunray Meditation Society and New Moon Fire at the Peace Village on March 22, 2026 at 9:00 AM ET. We start with the Stick Dance to clear the space, then the Fires are lit.

The New Moon in March is called the Windy Moon Ah-nv-yi and we celebrate the Friends Making New Ceremony, as well as the Cherokee Lunar New Year.
Venerable Dhyani writes in Voices Of Our Ancestors,
“Once a year in our ceremonial cycle the “Friends Making New” ceremony is held, and every day, one is encouraged to make way for forgiveness. In the ceremony we literally go to the ocean or the river’s edge and we cast the water over our shoulders seven times casting aside expectations, forgiving and letting go of attachment to what might have been, could have been, should have been. After that is done, even the most painful memories can be released and the worst enemies become friends again.”
This forgiveness ritual is a practice that you can do at any time, outside at the water’s edge or with a bowl of fresh water, or simply in your mind’s eye. This practice is written by Venerable Dhyani on pages 177-178.
We are connected with the Pulse of Earth and Sky, good crops, good weather, good health. We offer and are thankful. Errors can be made correct through forgiveness and amends by changing patterns of thoughts of confusion and sorrow.
Once a year during this celebration, the sacred Friends Making New Crystal is carried from the Temple and brought to the Fire at sunrise, followed by dances and viewing of the crystal.
After practices and offerings are made in the Sacred Arbor for Friends Making New, we proceed to the Temple of the Adawees, Wise Protectors in a quiet meditative state.
Everyone is welcome to continue this ceremonial cycle by observing the special crystal that is only opened at this time. Anyone who wishes to come is welcome and will be guided through the practices. This is a time when the crystal may give prophecies or visions for the upcoming year for each person in their quiet viewing. This part of the ceremony will NOT be on Zoom.
The special dances for Friends Making New assist in understanding the nature of one’s own mind and body that is in harmony with the pulse beat of the earth and rhythm of the sun.
For this ceremony in 2026, the dances will be reviewed and taught on Saturday March 21 from 10:00-11:00 am ET. The dances will be reviewed and taught in preparation for Celebration of Ceremony the next day, Sunday March 22.
This ceremony is open for students, practitioners, friends and family. All are welcome.
A Potluck feast is celebrated together at conclusion. Please bring a food dish to share for the Community Feast outside the Community Hall after the practices at the Arbor Fires and the temple.
For those from afar, you may like to select a specific candle that can become your dedicated New Moon Candle. When the Home Fire is lit in the Arbor, connect your heart to that Fire, light your candle on your shrine.
Join with us offering your prayers, dance and meditation practice for the benefit of all beings.
For those in person, join in a potluck feast following the Arbor Fires.
Guided by Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo, we celebrate the traditions of the Green Mountain Ani Yun Wiwa as the gateway through which Ywahoo Lineage teachings are shared.
All are welcome to join us at the Peace Village or by lighting the Fire on your home shrine and joining in the practices on zoom.
