Intro to the Heart Sutra

Excerpt from a teaching by Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo, Pema Sangdzin Khandro

Mantra are seeds sounds from whence myriad appearance arise. Mantra are keys to the dance of forms arising. Inviting the certain seeds sounds with the intention that all beings recall their natural state of luminosity is a most wonderful offering.

The Heart Sutra is a most profound and the deepest teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, the distillation of teachings about the dance of forms arising. And as such becomes a roadmap that people recall their natural state, and also pacify the suffering and confusion that arises through grasping or repulsing.

One has the opportunity to replace the negative emotions with the recollection of positive remedies and, ultimately, to see that all appearances arise from space. It is a roadmap. The Prajnaparamita Sutra, the distilled teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, is a roadmap that one may recall their natural state and recognize the heart wisdom is within, and that each one may access that natural state.

There are two versions we work with, a Tibetan version and also a version that came from Sanskrit, translated into Chinese, Korean, Japanese and then to English. Each of these mantras, when recited, are actually connected to the Sanskrit seed sounds when spoken in those particular languages.

There is power in sound. The Heart Sutra actually dispels distorted view and even makes safe haven in places that seem disturbed. It is deep and profound.
